Colorado’s Premier Arthritis Center

At CCAO we create treatment plans tailored to you. Our patients are of all ages, and, since no one treatment plan will meet every patient’s needs, a treatment approach will be designed that fits each patient’s needs, values, and lifestyle.

Common Types of Autoimmune Disorders

Autoimmune disorders occur when the immune system, which usually fights off infections, attacks your own body. The joints and surrounding structures are often involved, but any part of the body can be affected by autoimmune diseases, including the eyes, skin, kidneys, heart, or lungs. Blood tests or imaging studies often provide clues, and it is the job of a rheumatologist to combine these results with the patient’s history and examination to come up with a diagnosis and treatment plan. More information on specific rheumatic diseases and treatments can be found on the American College of Rheumatology website.
